The Kentucky Derby Museum has re-opened to the public, after flash flooding last August. Damage totaled nearly $4.5 million.
“We are literally new from top to bottom,” Kentucky Derby Museum Communications Director Wendy Treinen said.
Treinen also said 85 percent of the exhibits are brand new, new graphics and technology included.
Triple Crown-winning jockeys Ron Turcotte, who rode Secretariat in 1973, and Jean Cruguet, who rode Seattle Slew in 1977, helped cut the red ribbon to open the renovated museum.
According to Lynn Ashton, museum executive director, "When you visit the Kentucky Derby Museum you will find yourself immersed in the next best thing to actually being at the Derby. Our exhibits will take you through the journey from the birth of the foal to the winner's circle. Find yourself in the middle of Kentucky Derby week activities and Derby traditions. Or you can take in the view of the track on Derby Day from the middle of the Infield."
